The Office for
Human Research Protections (OHRP), Department of Health and Human
Services (DHHS) oversees the protection of human subjects in federally
funded research activities. The OHRP accomplishes its mission through
assurance negotiation and development, compliance oversight, and education
development. Staff will be available to discuss the regulatory and ethical
principles involved in human subject research, the IRB Guidebook, the
videotape series entitled, “Protecting Human Subjects,” and
the regulatory and guidance materials available from the OHRP Web Site.
The OHRP is making available a CD-ROM titled Investigator 101 to any institution
having an approved DHHS Assurance on file with OHRP. This Investigator
101 CD-ROM is a state-of-the-art media that provides education on the
responsible conduct of human research and protection of human subjects.
It contains a combination of interactive features such as: cross-linking,
search engines, speakers, slide presentations, transcripts, ethical and
research guidelines, and federal regulatory documents. This excellent
educational tool was developed by the Public Responsibility in Medicine
